NEX Arctic Ocean. Norwegian microbrand from Oslo.

NEX ArcticIce

Jostedalsbreen, the largest glacier on the European mainland. A tourism magnet, and now also the inspiration behind the newest Norwegian microbrand timepiece. Say hello to the NEX Arctic Ice.

Who’s NEX?

You are forgiven if you’re not familiar with NEX. They are an Oslo-based microbrand who released their first watch in 2022. The La Mer is a dive-style timepiece that stands out thanks to its highly textured dial and sleek, timeless design. It was produced in a highly limited quantity of 30 watches.

Ice cold

NEX(t) from the brand, is the Arctic Ice. Their first square watch, and one of the coolest (pun intended) microbrand watches I have seen in a while.

Movement

This rectangular conveyor of time is powered by the Miyota 9039, a no-date (<3), Japan-made, extra-slim movement. In my opinion, the perfect companion for the Arctic Ice.

Specifications

Width: 36mm

Height: 38mm

lug to lug: 46mm

Thickness: 9,1mm

What more?

Although I have yet to experience this watch myself, I have high hopes. While I believe the La Mer had two points where it could be improved (small crown and slightly misaligned bezel) I have been informed that those issues will not occur on the Arctic Ice. One: there is no rotating bezel. Two: the crown is larger and without crown guards.

All in all, I can’t wait to get my hands on of the these. Rumors have it that I might be able to check out a prototype soon, though. I’ll make sure to keep you guys posted both here and on Instagram.

Full transparancy: I’ll be getting one of these watches for free when the Kickstarter ends. I am, however, free to only share my honest opinions. It is very important for me to be a reliable and trustworthy source of information.
