Casio MTP-B140D

Integrated bracelet, squared case shape, and a textured dial. Does it ring a bell?

Joining the hype, we find Casio and one of their newer offers, the B140D. Coming in at 39mm wide and width a thickness of a mere 7,6mm, this one should fit most wrists. Accompanied by a $60 price tag, you might even be able to afford it. But should you rather bring the Missus out for a couple of cocktails? Keep reading to find out.

DESIGN

Old money aesthetic is trending on TikTok these days. How to fool people into thinking your grandparents were rich, when you are actually lower working class. This Casio caters to this “not actually watch interested” demographic, while still exciting more than a few geeks along the way. I’m keen on that very slight Genta-ish appeal of the B140 and the fact that no one will ever start questioning whether this is an homage or not.

The striped dial compliments the case nicely and pushes the watch away from being too boring. Do we need “water resist” and “50M”? No, but we have come to expect this from the brand. The indices and hands match nicely in steel with a black line through the middle. I like it.

MOVEMENT

Like all Casios in the range, it comes with a very basic quartz caliber. Exciting? Not one bit. Precise, reliable and rugged? Absolutely. Casio is once again one of the few affordable brands that manage to get their second hands to actually hit the markers. No complaints.

BUILD QUALITY

If you have some experience with cheap Casio models, you know exactly what to expect from the B140. The case feels good and decently solid, crown action is satisfying and you won't find a single flaw on the dial or hands. Things line up perfectly. While you can find better feeling watches for less than $100, you won't find any brands delivering as consistently across all their models.

BRACELET

This is by no means a bad bracelet. It’s almost infinitely adjustable with the sliding lock mechanism and it’s sure to suit any wrist you might throw at it. The rolled links, however, do pull some hairs. And if you ever think you’re going to get a slight bit of solidity from one of these, you need a reality check. It feels cheap and it is cheap.

X-FACTOR

I am a massive fan of dirt-cheap Casio watches. You will not find any brand that offers as many original designs at such a consistently high quality in this price range. You simply cannot go wrong.
