Citizen Tsuyosa

The Citizen Tsuyosa is the culmination of two of the biggest watch trends in the last few years. An integrated bracelet, and colorful dials (and also this black one, of course.) But is it any good, or is Citizen just riding the hype-wave that was created by the Aikon and PRX?

DESIGN

I think the Tsuyosa looks fantastic. It's not ground breaking in any way, but it manages to be both unique and recognizable at once.

I see a little bit of OP, some Seiko 5, a pinch of Day/Date and quite a lot of PRX. Best of all worlds? Absolutely not, but a very good looking watch.

My only gripe with this design is the cyclops. It doesn't fit in, and it doesn't really help you to see the date better. A strange choice, indeed.

MOVEMENT

Inside the Tsuyosa you find a Miyota 8000 series movement. This is the Citizen/Miyota equivalent of Seiko's 4r movements. In my Tsuyosa, the movement runs well within COSC parameters. I am very aware however, that this is not the case with all Tsuyosas. You can't expect too much from these calibers, but you might very well get everything you want.

40 hours of power reserve is decent at this price point, and the uni-directional winding has not offered any noticeable noise or wiggling.

BUILD QUALITY

I have no complaints. Everything lines up, the edges are nice and sharp, and there are no blemishes or manufacturing errors on my example.

BRACELET

The bracelet is one of the very best features of the Tsuyosa.

Is it a bit jangly? Yes, it is.

Is the clasp very simple? Absolutely.

Is this still one of the most comfortable and best looking bracelets in the price range? No doubt.

Yes, the bracelet is not perfect, but it is very well matched to the watch case. You are also completely free from any kind of hair tugging.

X-FACTOR

That little something extra that you can't really point out, the thing that makes you want to wear a watch day in and day out. It’s a struggle to properly point out what sets this watch apart from the competition. Still, I believe it say quite a lot that my PRX is now listed for sale. I just won’t wear it anymore now that the Tsuyosa is here.
