Liberum modular watches

I remember the first time I saw Liberum Watches. Just One More Watch featured them on his YouTube channel, and I immediately fell in love with the concept. Modularity is not entirely new in the watch scene, but these things had a special something about them. Do they live up to my hype, or are they actually toy watches?

DESIGN

This design will certainly not appeal to everyone. Both I and the brand recognize this watch, but I still think that something like this could be worth a spot in any collection. Why? Well, they look good. You won’t have anything like it, and you can mix and match the colors to your heart’s content. There’s a slight Genta-ish appeal here, integrated strap and a somewhat octangular case gives this a sporty and recognizable appeal, while being completely different.

BUILD QUALITY

I was afraid when I opened the Liberum cardboard box. Would the watch feel like a cheap plastic toy, or would it be worthy of the 259€ price tag? Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The case feels solid and weighty and the plastic is of high quality. The material is very clearly not a cost cutting exercise, it is chosen because it works remarkably well in a fun timepiece.

MOVEMENT

The NH35 movement feels like yet another good choice in this model. Reliable and well-renowned, but cheap enough to make sense in a plastic watch. This thing would be ridiculous with a Swiss Sellita, it would also be far less interesting with a cheap quartz movement. That would place it firmly in the toy-watch category.

STRAP

The strap is seemingly made from the same material as the case. Thus not being the softest type of rubber you will find, but that’s a good thing. It does not gather dust like many of the softer rubber straps do, and a dusty strap is one of my absolute no-goes on my wrist. This strap feels rugged while allowing the watch to wear very comfortably. Great match.

X-FACTOR

The X-Factor is that little something extra that makes you want to wear your watch as much as possible. And this one is a true X-factor watch. It is unlike anything you already own, kind of like a mechanical G-Shock. For the days when you could use your G, but you don’t really need the ruggedness.
