Soner Nostalgia

The “square only” watch brand is back at it again with a much more reasonable watch than last time. Well, at least when it comes to the dimensions. Keep reading to see whether this is a Cartier killer, or nothing more than a mediocre dress watch.

DESIGN

Söner Watches proud themselves on being the only watch brand that only sells square watches. And, yeah, The Nostalgia is square, but it is so in a slightly different manner than what we are used to. The case doubles up on itself and you get sort of a case repeat as the bezel. It’s really cool. Personally, I am not one for red dials, and The Nostalgia has not changed my mind. The color just doesn’t work for me, but Söner provides a myriad of other colors to suit your needs.

BUILD QUALITY

I am somewhat disappointed by the build quality of this Söner Nostalgia. The case is of good enough quality, although I would wish for sharper edges. That’s my subjective opinion. What is not subjective, however, and completely unacceptable in a 520$ watch (yes, that’s the actual price once the launch offer ends), is the amount of dust and debris on the dial. There are several specks of dust big enough to be seen with the naked eye. With the most notable right below the pinion. I have owned much cheaper watches with absolutely none of these flaws. Take a look at my photos, even those taken from a distance clearly show imperfections on the dial.

STRAP

My Nostalgia came supplied on a pretty nice, smooth black leather strap. The strap feels like good quality and has a pin buckle without a logo. You also get a quick release so you’ll have no issues swapping it out to something else. Check out Söner Watches’ website to see all possible strap combinations.

MOVEMENT

While you can get The Amourous (same case) with an automatic Sellita movement, The Nostalgia is powered by an ETA quartz caliber. 11 years of battery life is pretty good, and I think quartz is a the best choice for an occasional wearer like this one.

X-FACTOR

Cartier Killer? I’d rather say “decent square watch alternative.” Whereas the Cartiers are filled to the brim with historical significance and French exclusivity, Söner is something else. It’s cool that they are Swedish, it’s certainly cool that they only produce square watches, but at ordinary selling price of 520$, I think these are too expensive. Especially with the quality control issues that my Nostalgia has faced.

Söner do brag about their 100% satisfaction guarantee, so I’m sure they will sort out any issues you might run in to with your watch. I’m also certain that they would have fixed mine, but as a reviewer I have to be honest and transparent about any issues I find in the watches I check out.

Want one of these? Hurry up before the launch sale ends on the 29. February. It’ll double in price once March shows up.
