Pagani PD-1701
You might already be aware that I have difficult relationship with homage watches. Still, I had to buy one of these to learn more about the cheapest way to look rich.
DESIGN
Well, the design is fantastic. Being modelled after one of the most iconic watches ever made, that’s exactly what we would come to expect. As it’s the V3 you can even see what time it is, which was not possible on the V1 and V2, thanks to their silver hands. No creds to Pagani Design, though. This is Omega’s design.
MOVEMENT
VK63 is my favorite in the price range. It’s reliable and precise, while offering the correct layout for this watch. One thing to keep in mind, is the incredibly jerky chronograph reset. The minute hand will jump up to several minutes as it’s affected by the immense force of the second hand snapping back to twelve.
BUILD QUALITY
For 90$? Fantastic. If you’re lucky. The chronograph hand on mine stopped after 35 seconds every time I ran the chronograph. I removed the movement from the case, and it ran perfectly. Turned out that the chrono hand was mounted to high so that it rubbed up against the crystal. I was able to fix it, as I have some experience with DIY watches. Do keep in mand that you are completely on your own when these things happen to AliExpress watches. You might get a partial refund, but they are not going to fix your watch. Not unless you are willing to wait several months.
STRAP
The bracelet looks good and feels decent. The five links are well articulated and comfortably, but you can’t expect too much at this price. Clasp is a simple milled no-security clasp with three holes of micro adjust. And, believe it or not, an absolutely ridiculous diver’s extension.
X-FACTOR
You might fool someone from afar.
CONCLUSION
These homage watches are incredible value for money. They are generally quite reliable, and the build quality is decent. The problem arises when people come up to you, wanting to talk about the cool Speedmaster on your wrist.
